6 Pitfalls Of Copying A Professional Resume. #1 Thing Recruiters Want You To Know About Getting A Job AppDynamics. How To Land A Job At Northside Hospital. How Fast Write! 3 Tips For Getting A Job At Medidata Solutions. The Secret To Networking When You Don#039;t Have Any Time. 3 Ways Emotionally Intelligent Leaders Make The Most Of Online Collaboration. Recently, I was contacted by a job hunter who wanted an update to his existing resume, a service I offer to cornell former clients in my practice. The resume looked strikingly familiar on some level, but the name didn’t resonate. Then, it hit me: I HAD written it — but for someone else. Professional resume writers encounter this scenario all the time, and for the most part, it’s flattering to think our work is compelling enough to be copied (at least, if we can ignore the obvious part pertaining to how fast can you write copyright law). However, here’s what worries me when I spot a copied rendition of the research paper, a professional resume (mine or anyone else’s): the copier rarely grasps the branding and building process that went behind it in the first place.

Therefore, he’s doing himself a grave disservice by how fast can you a dissertation borrowing the format, writing style, and tone, then pasting his career story in between that of someone else. Pitfalls Of Copying A Professional Resume. Persuasive Statement! The worst part? The “borrower” often fails to understand this context, and how fast can you write a dissertation goes right on using it as if it were a coherent and targeted document. So, if you’re determined to make your resume look like the masterpieces that you see on sites like mine, here are six likely problems that you’ll encounter in doing so: 1. You Can Easily Unravel The Original Brand Strategy. So… you think you have the same career path and can therefore just “tweak” a word or two? Not so fast. For a resume to be effective, the strategy is set (prior to any writing) based on how well the candidate fits the desired role and the potential for screen-out factors based on his or her personal career path, age, industry preferences, and a host of persuasive speech, other factors. How Fast Write! I often compare a client’s career path and achievements to others in the industry, pulling out any areas of ground essays on same, strength or weakness in credentials (including education and former jobs) to make decisions about word choice and how fast can you write a dissertation emphasis. The writing process itself only starts after lengthy data mining and analysis of the job goal. Then, content is wrapped around and essay woven through the strategy, along with personality traits, resulting in how fast can you a dissertation a total picture and unique value proposition.

Given this process, any changes to gre argumentative the resume by someone who doesn’t understand the candidate will create problems in the message… and while these nuances may go unnoticed by you, they are all key factors in whether a resume gets read or dismissed. 2. You Might Slide Into Generalizations That Blur The Message. Here’s what one candidate did with my power summary that described market-leading achievements (including a 70% rise in how fast can you revenue over 2 years, a totally restructured team and persuasive thesis profitable turnaround effort, plus a total obliteration of the can you competition): “Dedicated and hard working professional with over 12 years of experience in the food service sales and marketing industry, Successful experience in strategic planning, analysis of results, and international media relations.” Now, if you haven’t read lists of market, overused words for how fast a dissertation resumes, it might be time to do so. Words like “hardworking” or “successful experience” are both no-brainers and Environmental would not be taken seriously by employers… plus, they’re a dead giveaway the writer doesn’t know what he is doing when trying to describe himself. And put words like “created,” “spearheaded,” and “developed” in the document so many times that they’ll lose their meaning.

Hopefully, you’ll refrain from can you write, describing all your achievements as “successful” and speech statement reference a thesaurus to avoid using the same word four times in one sentence (as I recently saw in a copied document). Here’s where training in power verbs can really save the day. Not convinced? Most professional writers count word occurrences (yes, really) and tend to scan documents for our favorite words, just to ensure employers remain fully engaged in your resume. 4. Your Changes Can Mess Up The Formatting. Professional resume writers are masters of presentation and formatting, to how fast the point that they’ll incorporate tricks and nuances into libor, a resume that escape your untrained eye. In fact, just moving a sentence or two will often throw an how fast can you write entire page into disarray, because you’ll be challenged by figuring out how to adjust headings or change point sizes for on the self who am i spacer lines. Worse yet, you might feel the need to shrink the font below 11 points. This should only be done for can you a dissertation certain sans serif fonts, and write gre argumentative essay then reviewed on different monitors to verify that the over-40 crowd of employers can read your document. 5. Your Writing Might Suck Up Space (Or Not Make Sense) Professional resume writers specialize in something your English teacher never approved of: sentence fragments. That’s right – we boil ideas and full sentences down to how fast can you write the most minute of details in order to write avoid that font problem that I just described.

Best practices in a dissertation journalism (you didn#8217;t know that resume writers use the Associated Press Stylebook, now did you?) dictate that sentences must be short, conveying meaning in the first 5 to 10 words. Gre Argumentative! (25-word sentences are held up as the Holy Grail.) So, with minimal practice in tight writing, your sentences might be as long as the one I just reviewed in a copied resume: 79 words! It#8217;s close to impossible for your resume to pass a 10-second scan with a dense paragraph like this. In addition, lack of how fast a dissertation, parallel sentence structure is a dead giveaway that your resume wasn’t professionally written. Parallel structure means that your sentences are written in alignment with each other (such as fragments that all begin with nouns, or verb forms that consistently appear in past tense). 6. There Won’t Be Any Way To Update Your “Work” Professionally. Your personal work style and energy will rarely (if ever) show up in someone else’s document. So, you’re already operating at a severe brand disadvantage before even trying to speech have someone update the resume for you.

Think about it: you started with someone else’s strategy, brand message, tone, and presentation, and tried to write plop a mixed bag of Environmental, verbiage over the original text. Write A Dissertation! Now, it really doesn’t represent you, and cornell the research this will make it difficult for a professional resume writer to can you write a dissertation make sense of write, it without starting fresh (which would have been my advice in write a dissertation the first place). Environmental Sustainability! In summary, you can certainly TRY to adopt a professionally written resume as your own, but the pitfalls that can trip you up along the way can actually hurt your job search results. You’re better off pulling in how fast a dissertation some formatting styles that appeal to on the self i you, and how fast can you write writing about your own career history—from scratch.

A Dissertation? There is one simple reason for this - young people nowadays are just too selfish and too self-centred to have children. And this is particularly true of women. To what extent do you agree with this view? Support your argument with relevant readings and paper evidence.

Countries in can you write, the developed world have seen a big shift in attitudes to population growth. Several generations ago, it was generally believed that too many babies were being born, and on the self who am that societies should try to reduce their populations. Nowadays, however, the concern is the reverse - that birthrates are falling too low and that urgent action is needed to encourage people to have more children. But what are the causes of how fast can you write a dissertation, this trend? And how much are the cornell paper, attitudes and lifestyles of how fast write, young people to blame? This essay will consider a number of explanations for the so-called baby crash. My argument will be that to hold young people responsible is neither valid nor helpful.

The best explanation, I believe , is to be found in sex marriage, the condition of increased economic insecurity faced by can you write a dissertation the young. The birth rate has fallen dramatically in many parts of the libor model thesis, world. To take several examples, in Europe in 1960, the total fertility rate (TFR) was about 2.6 births per female, but in write, 1996 it had fallen to 1.4 (Chesnais, 1998) . In many Asian countries, similar declines have been experienced. Libor Market Thesis? Japan now has a birthrate of only about 1.3, and Hong Kong#039;s has fallen to below 1.0 (Ichimura and Ogawa, 2000) . A TFR of below 2.0 means that a country#039;s population is not replaced, and thus there is a net population decline. This ageing of the population has the write, potential to speech statement, create serious problems. Fewer children being born means that in the long term, a smaller proportion of the populace will be economically productive, whilst a larger proportion will be old and economically dependent - in can you, the form of pension, health care and other social services. Most experts agree that these greying societies will not be able escape serious social and economic decline in the future (Chesnais, 1998). So what are the causes of Environmental, this trend and what can be done to stop it? One common approach has been to lay the blame on how fast, young people and their supposedly self-centred values.

It is argued that in developed societies, we now live in a post-materialist age, where individuals do not have to be so concerned about common sex marriage, basic material conditions to survive (McDonald, 2000a). Thus people, especially the young, have become more focussed on the values of self-realisation and the satisfaction of how fast a dissertation, personal preferences, at the expense of traditional values like raising a family. Self I? A strong version of this view is put forward by Japanese sociologist, Masahiro Yamada (cited in Ashby, 2000) . He uses the term parasite singles to refer to grown children in their 20s and 30s who have left school and are employed, but remain unmarried and continue live at home with their parents. These young people are spoilt, he says, and interested only in their own pleasure - mainly in the form of write a dissertation, shopping. According to Yamada , it is this focus on self, more than any other factor, that is responsible for Japan#039;s languishing birth rate (Ashby, 2000). In other developed countries, there is a similar tendency for the young to remain at home enjoying a single lifestyle - and a similar tendency for older people to interpret this as selfishness (McDonald, 2000a). But is Environmental, it reasonable to how fast can you write, attribute the baby crash to the pleasure-seeking values of the young? The problem with this view is that whenever young people are surveyed about their attitudes to family, not only do they say they want to have children, they also express preferences for family sizes that are, on average, above the the research paper, replacement level (McDonald, 2000a). As an example, McDonald quotes an Australian study that found that women aged 20-24 expected to have an average of 2.33 children in their lifetime.

Findings like this suggest that the values of the young are not at all incompatible with the idea of write, having a family. It seems then that, as young people progress through their twenties and thirties, they encounter obstacles along the way that prevent them from i, fulfilling their plans to be parents. Some conservative thinkers believe the main obstacle is the changed role and how fast can you write status of women (eg. Norton, 2003). Write Essay? According to can you a dissertation, this view, because young women now have greater educational and libor market model thesis career opportunities than in previous generations, they are finding the idea of how fast a dissertation, family and motherhood less attractive. Thus, educated middle class women are delaying marriage and childbirth or even rejecting motherhood altogether. It is claimed that women#039;s improved status - which may be a good thing in itself - has had the unfortunate consequence of cornell the research, threatening population stability.

But there are several problems with this argument. How Fast Can You Write A Dissertation? For one, the lowest TFRs in Europe are found in Spain and Italy (around 1.2), both more traditional, male-oriented societies, which offer fewer opportunities to women. Ground Sex Marriage? In comparison, Sweden which has been a leading country in advancing the rights of a dissertation, women enjoys a higher TFR (1.6 in 1996) - even though it is still below replacement. Chesnais (1998: p. 99) refers to this contrast as the feminist paradox and concludes that empowerment of women [actually] ensures against a very low birth rate (my emphasis) . Another problem with trying to link improved education levels for women to low birth rates is that fertility in developed countries seems to be declining across all education and class levels. Ground On Same Sex Marriage? In a recent survey of Australian census data, Birrell (2003) found that, whereas the non-tertiary-educated group was once very fertile, its rate of partnering is how fast can you write a dissertation, now converging towards that of tertiary educated women. We can summarise the discussion to this point as follows: Young people today, in spite of what#039;s said about their values, still express a desire to persuasive speech, have children. However, few end up having as many as they say they would like. The improved education and career opportunities for women does not seem to be the decisive factor in reducing the number of children that a woman has. These conclusions suggest that there must be something else involved.

Many writers are now pointing to a different factor - the economic condition of young people and can you a dissertation their growing sense of insecurity. Peter McDonald (2000a) in his article #039;Low fertility in Australia: Evidence, causes and policy responses#039; discusses some of the things that a couple will consider when they are thinking of having a child. One type of thinking is what McDonald calls Rational Choice Theory, whereby a couple make an assessment of the relative costs and benefits associated with becoming a parent. In traditional societies, there has usually been an economic benefit in having children because they can be a source of labour to libor, help the family. Can You Write? In developed societies, however, children now constitute an Environmental Sustainability, economic cost, and so, it is argued, the benefits are more of a psychological kind - for example, enjoying the how fast can you, status of being a parent, having baby who will be fun and will grow up to essay self, love you, having offspring who will carry on the family name etc. The problem, McDonald suggests, is that for can you write a dissertation many couples nowadays the common ground, economic cost can easily outweigh any perceived psychological benefits.

McDonald (2000b) discusses another type of decision-making - Risk Aversion Theory - which he says is also unfavourable to the birth rate. According to this theory, when we make important decisions in our lives life, if we perceive uncertainty in our environment, we usually err on the side of safety in order to avert risk. McDonald points to how fast write a dissertation, a rise in economic uncertainty which he thinks has steered a lot of young people away from life-changing decisions like marriage and ground essays on same sex marriage parenthood: Jobs are no longer lifetime jobs. There is a strong economic cycle of booms and busts.

Geographic mobility may be required for employment purposes (McDonald, 2000: p.15). Birrell (2003) focuses on how fast, increased economic uncertainty for men. Referring to gre argumentative, the situation in Australia, he discusses men#039;s reluctance to a dissertation, form families in terms of perceived costs and risks: Many men are poor - in gre argumentative, 2001, 42 per cent of men aged 25-44 earnt less than $32,000 a year. Only two-thirds of men in this age group were in full-time work. Young men considering marriage could hardly be unaware of the risks of marital breakdown or the long-term costs, especially when children are involved (Birrell, 2003: p.12). And Yuji Genda (2000) in Japan, responding to Yamada#039;s analysis of parasite singles, argues that the failure of young Japanese to how fast can you a dissertation, leave home and start families is not due to self-indulgence, but is an understandable response to increasingly difficult economic circumstances. Genda (2000) notes that it is the young who have had to bear the essay self, brunt of the decade long restructuring of the Japanese economy, with youth unemployment hovering around 10% and a marked reduction in secure full-time jobs for the young. Young people around the world seem to have an increasing perception of economic uncertainty and contemplate something their parents would have found impossible - a decline in living standards over their lifetime.

According to write, a 1990 American survey, two thirds of respondents in the 18-29 age group thought it would be more difficult for their generation to live as comfortably as previous generations (cited in Newman, 2000: p.505). Furthermore, around 70% believed they would have difficulty purchasing a house, and around 50% were worried about their future. Findings like these suggest that the younger generation may be reluctant to have children, not because they have more exciting things to do, but because they have doubts about model, their capacity to provide as parents.
